BREC’s Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center

There are live animal exhibits, examples of plant and animal species that call Louisiana home and ecology and art exhibits that the entire family can enjoy.  They also have a gravel path for those who enjoy hiking that will give you a small taste of the outdoors. You have a great chance of spotting wildlife at the Bluebonnet Swamp such as bird species, turtles, squirrels, rabbits, coyotes and occasionally, deer. You never know what you’ll see from the trails and they offer extras such as group tours, live animal viewings and day camp. Defy Baton Rouge

Defy Baton Rouge Area 51 is a fun detour from your normal family day trip. Defy Baton Rouge is an entertainment and sports facility that has things for the whole family to do. It has 30,000 square feet that houses more than 35 trampolines, wall trampolines, launching decks and more. You also get to play on the Ninja Obstacle Course, Zipline, Stunt Fall, Battle Beam to name a few. They also have tons of activity events for the whole family. Defy Baton Rouge also offers memberships for those who use the facility often.

Celebration Station

You’ve likely heard of Celebration Station as they have locations all over the U.S. You can play an 18-hole mini golf course with the family, hit some baseballs in the batting cage, race on the 2 go-kart tracks and play some arcade games when you’ve had enough sun. They also have bumper cars for those who like to crash into things as well as a mechanical swing and Miner Mike. You can find plenty to do with the kids at the Baton Rouge Celebration Station.

East Baton Rouge Parish Library

Some of my best memories are at the library as a kid. Flipping through page after page of books was a great way to pass the time. The East Baton Rouge Parish Library is a great place to take the kids or just yourself and have a nice day inside on a rainy day. The Baton Rouge library has high ceilings, cool fountains to look at and a rooftop succulent garden that makes a great place to read your favorite book and get some sunlight.

Blue Zoo Baton Rouge

“More than an Aquarium, More Than a Zoo,” is their motto. Blue Zoo features a hands-on environment where you can touch stingrays, reptiles, birds and more. You can also feed them and learn more about these beautiful animals. They also have sharps, clownfish, seahorses, an octopus and more! Blue Zoo has water tables set up so you can view marine life and they have a pirate ship. BREC’s Independence Park Botanical Gardens

Walk through the Botanical Gardens and observe nature with your family. This is a great place to walk and stretch your legs while visiting Baton Rouge. There are numerous gardens to see such as the butterfly garden, Independence Promenade, the Sensory Garden, the Crape Myrtle Grove, the Baton Rouge Garden Center, Louisiana Iris Garden, Parterre Color Display Garden, Southern Classic Walkway, Day Lily Garden, Rose Garden, Ginger Garden and many more. Blue Bayou Water Park

Blue Bayou has been around for years and continues to provide a great place to take the family while in Baton Rouge. There are numerous water slides for all ages such as the Mambo, Azuka, Lafitte’s Plunge, Conja and more. There are also multiple places to swim and have fun in the sun. 

Dixie Landing is a Baton Rouge amusement park that has over 27 rides and 10 games. You can spend your vacation or extended weekend checking out the amusement park/water park. They have live events such as music concerts.

Highland Road Park Observatory

The observatory offers something a little different to your trip. They have a 20-inch reflecting telescope that has been used in the discovery of dozens of asteroids.
