There are plenty of activities for kids in Lafayette, Louisiana. The city is rich in history and is one of the fastest-growing cities in Louisiana. Nicknamed “Hub City,” Lafayette is brimming with fun activities for the whole family to enjoy similar to Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Whether you’re looking for inside activities such as a museum or bowling or want to get some outdoor time such as hiking or amusement parks, Lafayette, Louisiana has what you’re looking for. You can even find an abundance of art centers, public parks that are updated and well-kept and plenty of museums that contain artifacts of history. 

If you have kids, you know how hard it can be to keep them occupied and many cities just don’t have enough activities for children. They get bored easily and are always wanting to go somewhere else. The great thing about Lafayette, Louisiana is the fact that there are multiple things to do with kids and you don’t have to take them to the same place every weekend.

The Lafayette Science Museum ranks high on every parent’s list of things to do with children in Lafayette. It features a wide variety of exhibits, a planetarium, art and events that kids love. The museum features incredible exhibits such as nanotechnology, biology, air and spacecraft, meteorites, paleontology and a long list of interactives. The nanotechnology exhibits are fun for kids as well as the virtual reality lab just to name a few.

      Seniors that are 60+ $5

      Members are FREE and you can buy a yearly membership for $80 for a family of 5

It actually saves money to buy the membership if you plan to go at least a few times a year.

The Children’s Museum of Acadiana is a great place to bring your children when in Lafayette. It’s great for birthday parties, field trips or for a day away. They have a large selection of exhibits that allow your children to play and create things on their own in a safe environment. This interactive museum has plenty of stations for children of all ages to enjoy. It’s a relatively inexpensive outing with infants 12 months and under getting in for free and children and adults at $7 at the time of this post. The Children’s Museum of Acadiana features 2.5-hour timed sessions and are open Tuesday – Sunday. 

Escape Room Lafayette

While you may be on the fence about bringing your children to an “Escape Room,” it’s really just a fancy name for an interactive game setup that allows you to work together to try and solve the riddle and escape the room. Escape Room Lafayette does a great job at providing your group with interesting and challenging games. Any child under the age of 15 must be accompanied by a paying adult in order to participate. Escape rooms have been around for a while and are a great way to have fun with a group of people. It’s also a fun activity that your children will enjoy and it gives them a great story to tell their friends at school. Keep in mind that there are plenty of different experiences at the Escape Room Lafayette with some more laid back and others featuring jump scares and/or creepy scenes. All kids (and most adults) love to jump. This activity is not just extremely fun, but it also counts as exercise as your children won’t stop until you tell them it’s time to leave. You can even drop your kids off for SkyCamp which is an instructor-led program that gives them an amazing experience while you do other things. Kart Ranch of Lafayette

The Kart Ranch of Lafayette, Louisiana gives you and your children plenty of fun activities and games to play. More than just go-karts, they have laser tag, battle botz, kiddie train, spin zone bumper cars, golf, kiddie karts, an indoor play area for smaller children, castle clash, water games, an arcade and other activities that kids love. This is a great place to host a birthday party or to just take your children for a fun day. Zoosiana Zoo of Acadiana

Taking the kids to the zoo makes some of the best memories. They’ll remember those trips for the rest of their lives and will take their children when they grow up as well. The Zoosiana Zoo of Acadiana is home to thousands of animals from all over the world. You can rent facilities, host a birthday party and go to the Boo at the Zoo for Halloween. Not only does the Zoo of Acadiana have animals, they also have a gem mine, giraffe feeding station, safari train, petting zoo and play areas so you can rest while your children burn off some energy. You can purchase a day pass or buy a membership. I always recommend getting a zoo membership because you can pay it off after just a few trips, especially if you have a large family.
